Official Report / Commentary

Wigan Warriors moved to within six points of Betfred Super League leaders St Helens after beating Hull FC 14-10.
In a bizarre finale, Wigan went for a drop goal to win the game but - when the ball rebounded off the crossbar - they caught Hull napping to score a try and end their three-game losing streak.

After a frantic first quarter, the Warriors eventually took the lead in the 25th minute through Dan Sarginson and Sam Tomkins made it 6-0 with the conversion before the latter added a penalty to extend their lead.
Bureta Faraimo powered his way through two Wigan defenders to reply under the posts - which Jake Connor converted before the former United States international completed his brace after the break.

Tomkins drew the sides level at 10-10 with a second penalty with 10 minutes remaining before his drop goal rebounded off the crossbar, and into the arms of Sean O’Loughlin who did not panic - finally finding Liam Marshall who scored his 11th league try of the season.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane said: "I’m happy with the win. We’ve probably spoiled a few headlines. We showed some guts and determination.

“This is a good place for us to come, great stadium, good pitch, they are a good team and they are a bit busted at the minute. You have to lift your game and it could easily have gone the other way."

Hull boss Lee Radford said: “Two things in particular (cost us). Errors really hurt us throughout the game but our game management at the end was unbelievably frustrating.

“We had an opportunity to be two points behind them in the table and it’s incredibly frustrating. Some of the decision-making from key players was really frustrating.”
