Bears 5's is an innovative Rugby League game, ideal for people who have never played before.
As part of Coventry’s a 'City of Rugby' strategy, Coventry Bears have developed a fast, action packed, small-team sport, which is played in fun, sociable settings using the key fundamentals of Rugby League.
The game can be tailored to be touch or full contact, to suit the participants.
As the name suggests, a team is made up of five players with the option of male, female or mixed teams.
The game can be played indoors or outdoors offering true flexibility and the best part is, that Bears 5s will be played in varying community locations where participants say they want it - bringing the game to new players!
It's easy to get involved.
There's a simple online registration form and a few brief rules explained by the Bears Community Coaching team. Then anyone can start having fun with their friends and colleagues almost instantly and enjoy improved fitness.
The project is targeting ages 14+ and so will be located in schools, colleges, community groups, parks and workplaces.
The Bears are taking the game to three specific wards within the city who typically have less access to sporting opportunities.
This project is hosted by Coventry City Council, working with Coventry Sport Network, Coventry's City of Rugby initiative and Engage! Coventry.
