Wade Deacon and St John Fisher reach Wembley

Year 7 Boys

Widnes' Wade Deacon and St John Fisher from Wigan will contest the Year 7 Boys Champion Schools Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, August 25.

The north west schools made it to the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup curtain-raiser after chalking up fine semi-final wins at Crosfields ARLFC in Warrington yesterday.

St John Fisher were first to seal their spot thanks to a 22-6 win over St Helens' Rainford.

Fisher were 16-0 up at half time and added a fourth try in the second half in warm conditions to make it through.

Meanwhile, Wade Deacon recovered from an 8-0 half-time deficit to reach the Wembley showpiece with a 12-8 win over Bridgewater.

Warrington-based Bridgewater flew out of the blocks in the first period, with two some expansive play helping them to score two tries, with both conversions missed.

Wade Deacon were refreshed after the break and a stunning length-of-the-field solo effort, converted, hauled them back into the game.

With the score at 8-6, Wade Deacon needed another try to turn the tide, and they got it mid-way through the second period to leave them 12-8 up.

Despite a relentless period of attack from Bridgewater, Deacon stood firm to seal it.

Year 9 Boys

Yesterday also saw Brooksbank School and St Peter's Orrell secure their Year 9 Boys Champion Schools Final berth.

Halifax-based Brooksbank stormed to a fine 36-6 win over Outwood Academy Freeston.

They were in control from the off and built on their 18-6 half-time lead to pull clear.

And St Peter's were in equally blistering form at Oulton Raiders' Raider Park yesterday as they led Hull's Archbishop Sentamu 40-10 in the national semi-final after leading 30-4 at half time.
