The 2018 Women’s Super League season kicked off with defeat for defending champions Bradford Bulls as they fell to a 32-16 defeat at home to newcomers Leeds Rhinos in front of a huge crowd at Odsall Stadium.
The Rhinos got off to a superb start in the clash with tries from Rhiannon Marshall, Lois Forsell (2) and Suze Hill putting them 22-0 up in as many minutes.
The hosts did peg the Rhinos back to trail by 10 points at the break after tries from Leah Jones and Amy Hardcastle made it 22-12 to the visitors at the break.
However Leeds looked stronger for much of the second half with further scores from Amy Johnson and Charlotte Booth handing Adam Cuthbertson’s side an opening round victory.
Elsewhere, Wigan Warriors Women enjoyed a huge 54-0 win over last year’s grand finalists Featherstone Rovers Ladies, in front of almost 400 fans at Robin Park.
Kate McMullan, Vanessa Temple (2), Sarah Harrison (2), Rebecca Greenfield, Rachel Thompson (2), Georgia Wilson (2) all scored for the Warriors in the one-sided clash.
Sunday’s other Women’s Super League game was abandoned due to serious injury. St Helens were leading York 40-0 at the time.
