Injury problems mount for Hull

Hull FC are counting the cost of defeat in their historic Betfred Super League clash with Wigan Warriors in Australia.

New skipper Danny Houghton and vice-captain Scott Taylor are both facing spells on the sidelines following the Black and Whites’ 24-10 loss to Wigan in Wollongong.

Hull say Houghton, who left the field after 28 minutes with a torn calf, is expected to be out of action for two months, while Taylor is in hospital after undergoing appendix surgery.

“Scott’s situation was obviously left field, but everything has gone to plan and we’ll get him back into camp as soon as possible,” Hull coach Lee Radford said.

“Everyone is sending him our best wishes.”

Prop Liam Watts (hamstring) and second rower Mark Minichiello (ankle) also left the field during Saturday’s match and are doubtful for the game with St George Illawarra Dragons at the ANZ Stadium this Saturday.

However, the club are hopeful winger Bureta Faraimo and centres Jake Connor and Josh Griffin will be fit to face the Dragons and Carlos Tuimavave and Chris Green are set to play their first game of the season.

Radford said: “Injuries are part and parcel of the game and they give an opportunity for some of our young blokes to come into the side and stake a claim.

“We’ve brought these boys over to play so they’ll get their chance and we’re looking forward to getting the other lads back as soon as possible.”
