Trueman commits to Castleford

Castleford Tigers have offset the departure of promising back-rower Luis Johnson by securing the future of teenage half-back Jake Trueman.

Trueman announced himself on the Betfred Super League scene with a sensational first-half hat-trick on his full debut at Wigan Warriors in September.

The 19-year-old has signed a new three-year deal that will keep him at Castleford until at least the end of 2020.

"I'm really happy that Jake has decided to extend his stay with us," said Tigers head coach Daryl Powell.

"He's shown, in particular against Wigan, that he has a ton of potential. He is a mature rugby league player for his age and we think there is a lot more to come from him.

"I think he is the most promising half-back in the English game."

Trueman, a product of the Bradford Bulls academy, is looking forward to adding to his three Super League appearances next season.

"I'm very happy to have the next three years sorted out here at Castleford," he said. "I believe that this is the club that I will develop the most at.

"I'm looking to play as many games as I can in 2018 as I look to put pressure on the two starting halves."

The announcement came on the same day England Academy international Johnson was confirmed as a Warrington Wolves player.
