Northern 1A division league leaders Northumbria A went down to their first defeat of the 2017/18 campaign on Wednesday afternoon, losing 30-18 away at Edge Hill in a top-of-the-table clash.
Two tries and five goals from full-back Lewis Fairhurst saw Edge Hill bounce back from last week's disappointing defeat away to Liverpool John Moores, where they went down to a 48-12 defeat.
Backs Sam Roylance and Matthew Mollard also got on the scoresheet for the hosts, alongside prop Elliot Bridges.
In an end-to-end contest, the Lancashire side ran into an early 12-0 lead before Northumbria hit back in spectacular style.
Scores from hooker Fletcher Gates and Gregg Thompson from the interchange either side of half-time brought the visitors level.
Bounced back well after last weeks performance. Good strong running from the forwards saw us through the game running 30-18 winners against @Northumbria_RL seconds. @joshmousdell98 our man of match playing 80 minutes and running hard all game.— Edge Hill Tigers SRL (@EdgeHillTigers) November 8, 2017
It would get better for the league leaders as Keiron Lewis put his side ahead for the first time in the game with 20 minutes to play. He converted his own score give his side a six-point lead.
However, Edge Hill were soon level once more and two tries in the final 15 minutes ensured the hosts would claim the points and Northumbria would go down with their first defeat of the season.
Edge Hill captain Josh Mousdell said: "It was great to see the lads bounce back after last week's defeat away at Liverpool John Moores.
"It was a top result against the league leaders. We stuck together as a team and worked as a unit to overcome a really tough opposition."

Elsewhere in the Northern 1A division, a brace from half-back David Harrison wasn't enough for Sheffield away at Leeds Beckett A, as they lost 39-20 on Wednesday.
Serious injuries to winger Matt Formstone (dislocated shoulder) and prop Joe Hammond (broken wrist) rubbed salt into the wounds of the South Yorkshire side who dropped to the bottom of the division.
Captain Marcus Stock reflected on the loss saying: "It was a tough day at the office.
"I thought our middles played really well but we let in some soft tries. There are positives to take forwards with players new to the game like Shinya Kantake getting better every week."
In the final game of the round, Manchester Metropolitan went above Liverpool John Moores in the table with a 32-24 victory on Wednesday evening.
In a tight contest at Platt Lane, Manchester came from behind late in the game with 12 men after an earlier sending off, to take the win and lift them to third in the table.
